Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role focuses on co facilitating a series of three Saturday groups of average of 18 participants on the topic of intimate partner violence education, awareness and prevention.

Accountabilities:

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar duties to the listed below:

Written and Verbal Communication

  • Facilitate the Choose 2 Change program according to the written manual and training received, as often as scheduled to do so
  • Only discuss confidential information from the group with co-facilitator. The Salvation Army Corrections representatives and other legal counsel as requested by law
  • Evaluate each group session to ensure majority group participation and fulfillment
  • Document client participation and interaction with the group for the purposes of communication with the caseworker
  • Communicate with supervisors and caseworkers as necessary via email, text message, video call and phone call
  • Attend team meetings as necessary

Reporting

  • Provide participant attendance for each program facilitated
  • Ensure that all participants receive a COVID screening
  • Provide completed client communication forms at the end of each three-day program
  • Document and report child abuse

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Your primary responsibility, while facilitating the content of the program, is to build relationships with the clients that foster safety, openness, and honesty.

You will co-facilitate these groups with one other person, which will require you to maintain appropriate and professional communication to provide a high quality of facilitation.

You will largely be in direct communication with the program supervisor to provide feedback on the group and your own facilitation experience.

There may be opportunity for you to train new staff and students, and you will be expected to provide them with support in their new role.

Governance Boards and Councils:

Internal: Supervisors and staff

External: IPV Intimate Partner Violence clients (domestic violence referrals)

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Executive Director or designate
  • Direct reports: None

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Take payments from clients when facilitating via cash, credit or debit card
  • Ensure that payments are correctly documented, and cash payments are promptly deposited into the onsite safe
  • Notify the Diversion Supervisor when needed supplies are running low

Working Conditions:

  • The work environment is typically in an office setting. Must be flexible.
  • Generally agreeable conditions, with the following exception:
  • Dealing with angry/upset offenders with varying degrees of emotional instability.
  • Working primarily in a large, open space to accommodate for the size of the group
  • Groups can range in size from 10 to 25 depending on health restrictions, such as COVID-19
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs and other needed equipment may be required

education, experience, AND Qualifications:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Post-secondary education or working towards a post-secondary education related to the social sciences or a combination of education and work experience

  • Ability to adhere to the standards and principles of The Salvation Army.

  • Experience in facilitating or co-facilitating therapeutic and information groups.
  • Experience with the issue of domestic/intimate partner violence.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Experience in facilitating or co-facilitating therapeutic and information groups

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with regards to all clients, file information and The Salvation Army Correctional & Justice services records and/or business.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work in a team and to co-facilitate with a co-worker
  • Willing to take TSA Armatus online training.
  • Winnipeg or RCMP Police Services Check

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.67 to $22.09 with a maximum of $26.51.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
