Position Summary:

The Architectural Engineer oversees the technical aspects of project design and directly handles the structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems. The ideal candidate will ensure that buildings are safe, efficient, and meet quality standards while staying within budget and schedule constraints. The Architectural Engineer collaborates with the Development, Design and Construction teams to develop and analyze building systems to ensure the integration of technical requirements into the overall design of our buildings. Field visits are necessary from time to time to monitor progress and address any challenges during construction.

Key Responsibilities: (these are the essential functions)

  • Collaborate with the NFOS Design and Construction Teams to engage in design-build efforts to balance cost and quality.
  • Design and analyze building systems, including structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to evaluate possible improvements to technical aspects of our designs.
  • Optimize building energy efficiency while balancing cost and ensuring compliance with building codes and industry standards.
  • Oversee project management for assigned scopes, maintaining accurate progress reports relative to timelines.
  • Review shop drawings and provide feedback to NFOS construction teams.
  • Participate in ground-up development projects, coordinating site and building design components.
  • Support North Forest's ongoing efforts to manage the balance between cost and quality of design and materials.
  • Perform field visits to better understand project elements and obtain feedback from construction teams.
  • Address technical challenges during construction and recommend solutions.
  • Stay current on industry trends, building codes, and sustainability practices.

Education and Experience/Certification or License: (these are the requirements of the position)

  • Degree in Architectural Engineering or a related field. (Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering)
  • 10+ years of structural and architectural design engineering experience.
  • Maintains an active . (NY, TX, CO, FL)
  • Registered Architects with relevant experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive understanding of structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and design requirements.
  • Experience with design software including but not limited to AutoCAD, Revit.
  • Project management experience with the ability to drive projects aligned with company goals, contributing to our continuous improvement environment.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design standards and building codes.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, time management, and analytical skills.
  • Fits well within NFOS culture and exhibits characteristics that are aligned with being part of a high-performance team.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Some travel is required. Likely limited to 1-3 times per year.
  • Ability to walk active construction sites, including uneven terrain, mud, gravel, steep grades, and partially completed structures.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind).
  • Must be able to drive between project sites.
  • Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, boots, safety glasses, high-vis vest, hearing protection) for prolonged site visits.
