A Brief Overview
The Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist is a highly skilled professional who uses specialized computerized x-ray equipment to produce cross sectional images of human anatomy which aid radiologists in diagnosing a wide variety of diseases and disorders. Technologist may perform radiographic procedures at a technical level requiring sound understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology; a high degree of technical competency and with the ability to act with initiative and ingenuity with minimal supervision. Apply ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis in adult and/or pediatric radiology as needed. Employees in this position will be responsible for inpatient on-call and shift rotation.
What you will do
- Review outpatient orders prior to day of procedure to ensure accuracy and to avoid delay in patient care.
- Provide excellent patient care by educating and preparing patients for their procedure while utilizing effective communication.
- Obtain and document accurate patient medical history to assist radiologist's interpretation.
- Prepare to operate CT equipment to capture the appropriate images following the protocol set forth by the radiologist, and determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
- Position and instruct patient while utilizing protective shielding, immobilization, and supportive devices as required.
- Perform and complete procedures as required based on physician's order, and a variety of diagnostic procedures (x-ray); including but not limited to digital and mobile imaging as needed at applicable locations.
- Administer contrast dye when necessary to enhance imaging and ensure patient comfort and safety for the duration of their procedure.
- Start I.V., load and operate power injector, and administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
- Cleaning and maintaining all imaging equipment.
- May also assist with mentoring and/or training students, new hires.
- Associate's Degree under the completion of a Radiologic Technology program Required or
- Certificate under the completion of CT technology certification program Required
- Minimum one (1) year Radiologic Technology experience Required
- Minimum one (1) year CT experience Preferred
- Understand and utilize ALARA concepts and critical thinking
- Time management
- Effective communication
- Proficiency in IV access for contrast media administration
- Computed Tomography - American Registry Radiologic Technologist or registry eligible (if eligible, CT certification must be obtained within 24 months of hire/
