We're looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated Prep Cook to join our breakfast-focused kitchen team. Prep Cooks are the backbone of our operation—arriving early to ensure ingredients are stocked, batch recipes are ready, and the kitchen is set up for success. If you want to come in, do your thing, and bounce with no micromanaging we may be a good fit.
Responsibilities
- Arrive early to set up workstations and prepare ingredients according to recipes
- Follow detailed prep lists to plan and execute daily duties
- Label, stock, and organize ingredients for easy accessibility
- Wash, chop, and portion vegetables, meats, and other ingredients
- Assist with basic cooking tasks (reducing sauces, parboiling, preparing specials)
- Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen: wash dishes, sanitize surfaces, take out trash
- Ensure proper storage of food and supplies in compliance with safety standards
- Assist with truck inventory twice a week to keep stock accurate and organized
- Comply with nutrition, sanitation, and safety guidelines
- Support the kitchen team with additional duties as assigned
Skills
- Proven experience as a Prep Cook or similar role preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Knowledge of kitchen health and safety rules
- Manual dexterity with cutting tools and kitchen equipment
- Team player with clear communication skills
- Positive attitude under pressure and the ability to stay patient
- Physical stamina and endurance for a fast-paced environment
- Must be an early riser—our breakfast service requires morning availability
Requirements:
- Must be able to start at 4 am
- Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be a self-starter
- Must be detailed oriented and organized
- Must be able to work between 35 and 40 hours a week.
What a normal day would look like:
A typical day for a prep cook begins with arriving on time at 4:00 a.m. and doing a full walk-through of the coolers. During this check, any items that have passed their pull date are removed and documented. After the walk-through, the first priority is getting the bacon and sausage started in the ovens so fresh product is ready for opening.
Once those are underway, the next step is to review the daily prep list and begin working through the required items and quantities. We maintain both an opening prep list and a closing prep list, each with slightly different tasks. Depending on the day of the week, the opening or closing prep cook will also have an assigned side-work task to complete. On days when the truck order is placed, that order must be finished by 9:00 a.m.
