Junior Planner/Assistant Planner

MacKay and Somps is seeking a Junior / Assistant Planner to join our collaborative Roseville team. Our planners come from backgrounds in urban planning, city and regional planning, and landscape architecture—and we welcome motivated recent graduates who are ready to learn, grow, and contribute.

Responsibilities:

As a Junior/Assistant Planner, you will work closely with senior planners, engineers, and project managers on a wide range of land development and entitlement projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments. Responsibilities may include:

- Land use and zoning research

- CEQA research and assistance

- Preparing planning and entitlement exhibits

- Creating residential lotting and street layout concepts

- Supporting master planning and Specific Plan preparation

- Drafting tentative maps and site design concepts

- Coordinating with public agencies and project consultants

Required Skills and Experience:

- Basic understanding of planning and land development terms, methods, and principles

- Familiarity with land use, zoning, and CEQA concepts (coursework acceptable)

- Understanding of basic design principles and practical site design

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Interest in community design, sustainability, and public engagement

Desired Software Skills:

- AutoCAD Civil 3D

- Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Education:

B.S. in City and Regional Planning, BLA in Landscape Architecture, or a related field from an accredited university.
