Business Development Manager – Technical Sales Robertson Recruitment is partnering with a Fire & Security client based in Poole, Dorset. The role involves surveying, designing, costing and tendering life safety and electronic security systems such as fire detection, voice alarm, CCTV, access control, intercom, PA and intruder systems. You will review client specifications, liaise with suppliers, use design software, cost installations, issue proposals, manage key accounts and conduct regular customer review meetings.
Duties & Responsibilities
Take full ownership of sales enquiries allocated to yourself.
Develop outstanding relationships with architects, consultants and customers via phone, electronic communications and in person.
Attend client review meetings and progress sales enquiries and tenders in partnership with Business Development Managers.
Design life safety and security systems in line with customer requirements, specifications, drawings and current standards.
Prepare proposals, quotations and tender documents and ensure they are submitted on time and meet company standards.
Maintain the company CRM fully updated for all sales enquiries.
Assess security and fire risk factors, enhancing design or communicating back to the client as needed.
Ensure all quotations and specifications comply with applicable technical and regulatory standards (EN, BS, HTM, BAFE/NSI).
Adhere to all Company policies, including quality, health & safety and false‑alarm management.
Produce design and construction drawings, ensuring handovers and deadlines are achieved.
Take an active role in continuous improvement of Company systems.
Seek maintenance and monitoring opportunities for existing and new customers.
Travel to client or supplier sites within the UK.
Essential Person Specification
Good working knowledge of fire & security products and systems including design experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to prepare cost sheets and proposal documents.
Ability to build working relationships with colleagues, customers and external bodies.
Understanding of specifications and technical drawings.
Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, attention to detail.
Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Proficient use of MS Office applications and other IT software.
Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving and experience in action‑plan delivery.
Desirable Person Specification
Proficiency with AutoCAD.
Updated knowledge of new technologies, technical and regulatory standards relevant to design.
Good understanding of installation requirements for clear design specifications.
Understanding of construction industry and tender processes.
Initiative to improve business processes & systems.
CSCS card or equivalent.
Previous experience in Fire, Security or Data infrastructure industry.
Working Conditions Working hours are 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The role is based in an open‑plan office with multi‑screen computer use and requires site visits around the UK, including both indoor and outdoor environments. Personal protective equipment is required on construction sites.
