Overview
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or medical conditions. This vital role involves supporting residents in their daily activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting independence within a caring environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to person-centered care, excellent communication skills, and experience working with diverse populations including seniors, individuals with autism, dementia, or other disabilities. Prior experience in home health, assisted living, or long-term care settings is highly valued. Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support medication administration and monitor vital signs in accordance with care plans and HIPAA regulations
- Provide patient observation and monitor health status to ensure safety and well-being
- Assist with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring nutritional needs are met
- Support residents during activities and recreational outings to promote social engagement
- Operate specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts safely and effectively
- Maintain cleanliness of the living environment through light cleaning duties
- Document care activities accurately in compliance with healthcare standards and regulations
- Follow established care plans tailored to individual needs and preferences
- Recognize signs of medical emergencies or behavioral issues such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease and respond appropriately
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and team members to deliver comprehensive support
Requirements
- Prior experience in group home settings, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health is preferred
- Knowledge of patient care techniques including assisting with ADLs, medication administration, and patient monitoring
- Certification in CPR and First Aid required; additional certifications such as HIPAA training are a plus
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or memory care needs highly desirable
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., resident transfers using Hoyer lifts)
- Strong observational skills for patient safety and health monitoring
- Compassionate attitude with excellent communication skills for engaging residents effectively
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver's license may be required for community outings or transportation duties
