About the Role

The Superintendent is the onsite leader responsible for driving all phases of construction from site mobilization through turnover. You'll own day-to-day field operations, coordinate subcontractors, monitor safety and quality, and keep the schedule and budget on track. This is a hands-on position that requires strong field visibility, clear communication, and the ability to guide crews of varying sizes. You'll work closely with project managers, clients, and trade partners to ensure the project delivers exactly as promised—safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead onsite construction activities from pre-construction through closeout
  • Oversee subcontractors, trades, and field personnel (typically 3–5 direct reports and up to 100 workers onsite)
  • Enforce all safety, quality, and compliance standards
  • Conduct daily site walks and coordinate logistics, sequencing, and field planning
  • Maintain and report on project schedules, cost impacts, and progress updates
  • Ensure strict adherence to project specifications, drawings, and quality programs
  • Partner with internal teams to resolve issues quickly and keep work moving
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful environment with trades, clients, and partners
  • Ensure all work aligns with established procedures and industry best practices
  • Support weekend or off-hours work when project demands require it

Requirements

  • 8–13 years of field construction experience
  • Proven success overseeing projects valued at
    $10M+
  • Background in
    healthcare, higher education, K-12, or federal
    construction
  • Strong track record managing projects from start to finish
  • Experience leading both direct reports and large field teams

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field
  • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 (or willingness to obtain)

Technical Skills

  • Deep understanding of construction safety standards
  • Working knowledge of CPM scheduling and cost reporting
  • Familiarity with quality programs and enforcement
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specs, and technical documentation

Location Requirements

  • Lives within
    90 minutes of Washington, D.C.
  • Able to work onsite 5 days per week
  • Washington DC, District of Columbia, United States
