The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is an essential member of the University's Marketing and Communications team. This position supports a wide range of digital marketing functions, including website management, social media strategy, graphic design, multimedia content development, and promotional initiatives for both the University and the American Sport Art Museum & Archives (ASAMA).
The coordinator ensures a strong, consistent, and engaging digital presence that promotes the University's brand, mission, programs, events, faculty/staff, and alums to students, prospective students, partners, and the community. This role also assists in strategic marketing campaigns, manages social media performance, supports community outreach, and contributes to major institutional events.
Job Duties
Website & Digital Content Management
- Maintain and update content across the University, ASAMA, and other owned websites.
- Monitor site performance, accessibility, and usability; troubleshoot issues and recommend improvements.
- Help maintain a digital content calendar for websites, campaigns, social media, and events.
- Draft, proofread, and edit digital copy ensuring quality, clarity, and brand consistency.
Social Media Strategy & Execution
- Manage, coordinate, and schedule daily content distribution across official social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, etc.).
- Implement and manage social media scheduling and publishing tools.
- Create engaging multimedia content including graphics, photos, videos, and short-form media.
- Monitor audience engagement, trends, and competitor activity to recommend strategy improvements.
- Track, analyze, and report on social media performance and campaign effectiveness.
- Capture photos and videos of campus events for digital storytelling.
- Participate in creative concept development, brainstorming, and campaign ideation.
Graphic Design & Multimedia Production
- Design graphics for websites, social media, digital ads, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Produce promotional materials such as flyers, infographics, branded templates, and digital assets.
- Create social media templates for other departments to ensure uniformity.
- Ensure all materials follow branding guidelines and accessibility standards.
Email Marketing & Communications
- Support the development of email campaigns, newsletters, and digital announcements.
- Assist with writing, editing, and formatting content for email marketing and internal communications.
- Coordinate with alum relations to highlight graduate achievements, collect data, and execute digital storytelling initiatives.
Community Engagement & Event Marketing
- Assist with marketing and promotion of ASAMA exhibits, events, and initiatives.
- Help identify opportunities to use ASAMA, Athletics or USSU events for student recruitment and community outreach.
- Represent the University at community events, sports events, tourism meetings, and local festivals.
- Assist with marketing, planning, and digital coverage of major events. This may include events after regular working hours, such as Commencement, The Eagles Golf Classic, Sport Artist of the Year Reception, Scholar Athlete Award Ceremony, and other sponsored events.
Additional Responsibilities
- Undertake daily administrative and project-related tasks to support office and departmental efficiency.
- Assist with large-scale initiatives including website redesigns, rebranding projects, and cross-department collaborations.
- Collaborate with internal partners, including web design, admissions, and alumni relations.
- Collaborate with external partners such as media contractors including photographers, videographers, new stations and printers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Operations Officer, Director of Marketing and Communications, or President.
- Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends for event coverage or community outreach.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Digital Media, or a related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in digital marketing, communications, social media management, or graphic design (higher education experience preferred).
- Proficiency with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and basic video editing skills (Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, Canva Video).
- Experience with social media analytics and scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite).
- Familiarity with CMS platforms (WordPress, Omni CMS, Drupal) and basic HTML/CSS.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Creative problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
Work Schedule
Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends for event coverage or community outreach.
Flexible scheduling to accommodate the athletic calendar and departmental needs.
Salary Range
$45,000 – $50,000
Maintain and update content across the University, ASAMA, and other owned websites.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45, $50,000.00 per year
