About

Job Summary

Performs all high-complexity testing in the Department of Molecular Pathology with minimal supervision. Identifies problems in department laboratory and operating systems and institutes appropriate corrective actions. Analyzes test data and quality control documents, and prepares draft reports for Molecular Pathologist Director/Supervisor to review. Actively participates in the department quality programs and adheres to policies and procedures developed for the department.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Performs all molecular-based test procedures used in the department with minimum supervision.
  • Participates in proficiency tests.
  • Prepares reagents according to provisions of the Reagent Manual.
  • Operates and maintains equipment according to provisions of the Equipment Manual.
  • Reports any problems with test procedures directly to the supervisor of the department.
  • Participates in the validation of new test systems in the department.
  • Analyzes test data and prepares draft reports to present to the supervisor of the department.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assists Molecular Technicians in daily lab operations.
  • Answers technical questions from clients or refers to supervisor.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the laboratory Quality system.
  • Reviews Standard Operating Procedures.

Environment/Safety

  • Responsible for the knowledge and practice of safety SOP's in the laboratory.

  • Complete all required EHS training.

  • Wear appropriate PPE as required.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, LC EHS policies / procedures, and the requirements of accrediting organizations.
  • Conduct work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

(a) No person who obtains confidential HIV-related information in the course of providing any health or social service or pursuant to a release of confidential HIV-related information may disclose or be compelled to disclose such information.

Information recorded on patient's requisition, worksheet or report is confidential and not to be discussed. This confidential information is supplied for the sole purpose of assisting the pathologist in making a diagnosis. No person who obtains confidential information (i.e., HIV, TB, etc.) in the course of providing any health related services may disclose confidential information.

Personal Work Contacts

  • Reports to and takes direction from the Lab Supervisor/Manager.

  • Takes direction from the professional and medical staff.

  • Interfaces with other laboratory and operational departments for specimen processing and other cooperative efforts.
  • Maintains a pleasant, cooperative, and respectful relationship with co-workers and all staff.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Medical Technology.

or

  • Bachelors in chemical or biological science with 6 months of experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
  • ASCP preferred.
  • State Personnel licensure (when applicable):
  • NY – State License
