About
The Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) works with youths and adolescents on a one-on-one basis whose behavior puts them at risk. The BIS will assist the youth and adolescents with making better decisions and/or redirecting the youth or adolescent. The BIS follows the behavioral intervention plan developed by the licensed clinical professional.
The Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS) Overview:
Under the general supervision of a licensed clinical professional, the BIS provides one-on-one behavioral interventions to a youth/adolescent in the client's home, residential placement, school, or during community outings. The amount of time spent with the client per week is determined by how many hours they are approved for. Clients are approved from 5 to 40 hours per week . The BIS performs additional related work as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the youth's or adolescent's safety and security by providing close constant supervision
- Provide one-on-one behavioral intervention for the youth or adolescent
- Provide crisis intervention when necessary
Training is provided
Service as a positive influence for the youth or adolescent
- Accompany a youth and adolescent through their daily activities and assisting when necessary
- Transport child to school, activities, or appointments
- Provide outings and activities for the child to participate in
- Ensure the youth or adolescent is engaged or remain engaged in activities
- Collaborate with licensed clinician and the youth's or adolescent's family
- When appropriate help develop Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) for independent living by the age of 21
- Ensure the safety of the youth or adolescent at all times while working with the youth or adolescent
- Attend required training and required staff meetings for professional development
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate's Degree focused on mental/behavioral health, OR H.S. Diploma, and 1-year experience in the mental/behavioral health field.
Requirements:
- Must pass criminal and Child Protective Services background check prior to employment
- Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and early mornings
- CPR/AED/First Aid required after hired
- Must complete a physical, drug test, and TB Test prior to employment (?)
- Must be physically mobile (?)
- Must have access to a telephone (?)
- Must possess a valid Maryland driver's license, current automobile insurance including a minimum, and a vehicle for work
Responsibilities:
- Provide intervention services to individuals with behavioral health needs
- Conduct addiction counseling sessions and provide support to individuals struggling with substance abuse
- Collect and analyze data to monitor progress and outcomes of interventions
- Administer medications as prescribed and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Work closely with individuals on the autism spectrum to develop and implement behavior plans
- Collaborate with other professionals, such as social workers and psychologists, to provide comprehensive care
- Monitor vital signs and assess overall health status of individuals
- Implement behavioral health strategies to promote positive outcomes
Skills:
- Strong background in addiction counseling and experience working with individuals struggling with substance abuse
- Proficient in data collection and analysis methods to track progress and measure outcomes
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum and implementing behavior plans
- Familiarity with children's developmental stages and ability to adapt interventions accordingly
- Understanding of social work principles and ability to collaborate effectively with other professionals
- Ability to administer medications accurately and safely according to prescribed protocols
- Knowledge of vital signs monitoring and ability to recognize abnormal readings
- Strong understanding of behavioral health strategies and techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy
