High School Bus Driver

Part Time: (As Needed - hours vary)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Non-Instructional)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Bus Driver will be responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of students to and from various extracurricular activities and events. He/she will prioritize the well-being of our students while maintaining professionalism and adherence to all relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a school bus in compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations, including those specific to the state of Florida.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior and exterior, ensuring a welcoming and comfortable environment for students.
  • Assist students, including those with special needs, with boarding, seating, and securing seat belts to ensure their safety during transit.
  • Communicate effectively with school administrators, parents, and students regarding bus schedules, route changes, and any safety concerns.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, reporting any maintenance issues promptly to ensure the vehicle's safe operation.
  • Keep accurate records of daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities, as required by state and school regulations.
  • Uphold the values and teachings of the Catholic faith in interactions with students and staff, fostering a respectful and inclusive environment on the bus.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance driving skills and stay updated on relevant regulations and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Valid Florida commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement (P) and school bus endorsement (S).
  • Clean driving record with no history of accidents or traffic violations.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening, as required by state regulations and school policy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to state and federal regulations governing school bus operations.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations, prioritizing the safety and well-being of students at all times.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, afternoons, and occasional weekends to accommodate school schedules and extracurricular activities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Catholic values and teachings preferred, with a willingness to support the school's mission and ethos.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of under 15 pounds
  • Occasional moderate carrying and lifting of 15 – 44 pounds
  • Frequent use both hands and fingers (i.e. typing)
  • Frequent extended periods of sitting and standing
  • Occasional ability of minimal hearing (i.e. loud noises, sirens) and routine hearing (i.e. listening to others in conversation)
  • Frequent time spent working closely with others

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25.0 per week
