Job Title: Preventative Maintenance Technician

Location : Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH (On-site)

The Preventative Maintenance Technician will support the Wind Tunnel Testing Facility (AFRL/RQVX) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. This facility supports Aerospace Sciences Division research and provides wind tunnel testing services for AFRL, the Air Force, DoD, and industry partners. The role involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and high-pressure systems in a specialized industrial environment.

Duties:

  • Perform medium to high-level troubleshooting and repair of mechanical and electrical systems supporting wind tunnel operations.

  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance on unique mechanical systems, large motors, AC/DC motor generators, compressors (0–3000 psi), pressure vessels, cooling systems, pumps, actuators, and hydraulic systems.

  • Support operation of lifting devices such as overhead cranes, forklifts, and other industrial trucks.

  • Provide technical support across all phases of wind tunnel operations.

  • Execute maintenance tasks of average to considerable difficulty, requiring proficiency across multiple mechanical and technical skill areas.

  • Assist with light fabrication, system diagnostics, and customized maintenance tasks in a dynamic industrial environment.

Sample systems and hardware include, but are not limited to:

  • Wind tunnel mechanical systems and associated support equipment

  • Large electrical motors and AC/DC motor generators

  • High- and low-pressure air compressors, pressure vessels, and air dryers

  • Overhead cranes, forklifts, scissor lifts, and similar lifting devices

  • Oil and water pumps, cooling towers, and related systems

  • High-pressure air and vacuum systems

  • Electric and hydraulic actuators

  • Hydraulic pumps and control systems

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED and related industrial mechanical maintenance experience.

  • Experience in an industrial or manufacturing maintenance environment with broad skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, plumbing, cooling, and high-pressure systems.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, read/write work orders and manuals, and communicate effectively using various devices.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and coordinate with internal personnel and outside contractors.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Vocational, technical, or associate degree in maintenance or a related technical field.

Security Clearance: The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
