SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Accounting and Controller reports directly to the CFO and is a strategic and hands-on financial leader responsible for overseeing the accounting, reporting, and internal control functions of a growing, private equity-backed physician practice management organization. This executive will ensure the integrity of financial results, establish scalable processes to support rapid growth, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership, investors, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate has extensive healthcare services experience, particularly within physician practice management, and thrives in a fast-paced, private equity-backed environment where building, improving, and scaling accounting operations is critical.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting, Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Lead all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and support audit readiness.
  • Oversee preparation of consolidated financial statements and provide variance analysis with actionable insights.
  • Monitor the financial performance of the company and prepare internal management reports, board decks, and lender reports that effectively provide an understanding of the results of operations in a comprehensive yet succinct way.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial consultants.
  • Provide accounting leadership through due diligence, acquisition integration, and other strategic growth initiatives.

Accounting Operations & Process Improvement

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Implement scalable accounting processes, systems, and controls to support continued growth, acquisitions, and integration activities.
  • Partner with the CFO to optimize the company's ERP and financial systems to enhance efficiency and reporting capabilities.
  • Establish and streamline KPIs and dashboards to monitor financial and operational performance across practices.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team capable of supporting a multi-state, multi-site, multi-entity healthcare organization.
  • Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and financial discipline across the accounting function.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, revenue cycle management, compliance, and clinical leadership to align financial goals with business performance.

  • Experience:
    • 15+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within healthcare services.
  • Strong background in physician practice management, or outpatient multi-site, multi-state healthcare services
  • Prior experience in a private equity-backed setting required.
  • Proven track record managing complex consolidations, integrations, and financial systems.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Deep knowledge of GAAP and healthcare-specific accounting principles.
  • Hands-on experience with NetSuite preferred.
  • Strong modeling, financial analysis, and presentation skills.
  • Leadership Skills:
    • Ability to balance strategic vision with tactical execution.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience presenting to Physicians, C-suite executives, and Boards
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and mentor accounting talent.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with a CPA designation required, and an MBA is preferred.
