About
The Cook works under the Culinary Director and supports all activities of the Dining
Services Department including the Kitchen and Dining Room. This position is responsible
for quality of meals served, quality of service delivery during meal service and for
compliance with special diets offered by the Community. It is important to provide the
highest quality food preparation, plate presentation and prompt service to all Residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
First and foremost, be a Arbor Village at Hillcrest's brand and culture ambassador. It is
a requirement to learn and communicate Arbor Village at Hillcrest's Values, Mission,
and Culture Keys while present in the communities.
Responsible for job checklist duties. *See attached job duties checklist
Follows the approved Menu Program or approved substitution menu that meets
nutritional requirements, as directed by the Culinary Director; If assisting with food
purchasing, then follows buying practices approved by the company; Conforms
to policy and procedures for all special diets offered; Responds to resident likes
and dislikes maintaining high resident satisfaction.
- Ensure that all foods are prepared to satisfaction of residents and in accordance
with safe food handling practices.
- Maintains food temperatures during storage, production and serving according
to required food safety standards.
- Uses equipment that meets all health department standards; All food items are
stored appropriately and dated properly.
- Ensures that staff provides service that maintains good resident experiences during
meal times.
- At the conclusion of each meal, visit with residents in the Dining Room for
feedback.
- Helps maintains a clean kitchen. This includes but is not limited to all equipment,
walls, dry storage, cold storage, cooking and preparation surfaces and dish
storage areas; Follow all health department practices, safety practices, and
infection control practices.
- Break down service line and clean work area as scheduled or instructed by
Culinary Director; Properly care for and clean all work areas and equipment.
- Report to work in a safe manner and that potentially hazardous conditions are
managed; Compliance with Safety Committee Standards is required.
- Conduct yourself and your business at all times so as not to detract from or reflect
adversely on the reputation of the Community.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will assist the Culinary Director on indirectly supervising staff during meal times.
- Ensures that staff provides service that maintains good resident experiences during
meal times.
- Ensure that employee meal policies and procedures are properly implemented
and controlled.
- Provides input and support to the Culinary Director on new hires and training staff
in the dietary department; Brings all performance issues to the Culinary Director.

Education and/or Experience
Basic knowledge and understanding of cooking skills and ability to follow
