We are searching for an ambitious and energetic Mechanical Design Engineer who is eager to capture customers' expectations and preferences through the lens of new product design. Position Summary
Reporting to the VP of Product Management and Development and working out of our Memphis, TN office, this role is accountable for the design and technical rigor within one or more consumer/DIY tool categories and brands that are sold into hardware, home improvement, Automotive, farm/ag and eCommerce channels. The ideal candidate for this position has passion for learning, and talent in technical rigor/design. This individual will be performing design analysis optimization and be performing hands-on prototyping/testing. This position will work across the organization driving and collaborating with functions in Product Management, Development, Operations, Sourcing, and Quality to ensure the successful execution of business goals.
Job Responsibilities
· Design / develop components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion and related processes including concept development and prototyping
· Create and interpret analyses to determine suitability of design concepts
· Ensure on-time completion of Design Control deliverables via risk-based decision-making into the design process
· Grow and maintain knowledge current with related technologies
· Work with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure feasibility of designs
· Translate VoC feedback into product requirements
· Create and release engineering drawings, reports, and presentations
· Travel to supplier and manufacturing sites as required
· Present technical findings or project status to cross functional teams and management through design reviews
· Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
· Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree and 0-3 years of experience in mechanical product development
· Strong communication & presentation skills; both verbal and written
· Talent to manage the needs and concerns of multiple stakeholders
· Experience working within a global supply chain structure is a plus
· Ability to travel 25% of the time both domestically and internationally
· Skills in planning, organizing, and executing clearly defined objectives in a diverse and dynamic environment
· Capability in executing plans under tight deadlines and time constraints
· Highly proficient with PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook
· Experience in 3D modeling (SolidWorks or equivalent) preferred
· Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
