Job Summary
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will manage front desk operations, coordinate patient scheduling, and support medical administrative functions. This role requires excellent communication skills, proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and a strong understanding of medical terminology and billing procedures. The Medical Receptionist will serve as the first point of contact for patients and ensure smooth clinic operations while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and provide exceptional patient service at the front desk
- Schedule appointments utilizing EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, and Eaglesoft
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification procedures
- Collect payments and process medical billing using CPT and ICD coding standards
- Manage patient records, update documentation, and review medical documentation for accuracy
- Handle multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette and assist with patient inquiries
- Maintain accurate filing of medical records and manage health information management tasks
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting patient information and updating electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Support office management tasks such as appointment reminders, documentation review, and office organization
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office or clinic environment is highly preferred
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms
- Knowledge of medical billing, coding (ICD-9/10, CPT), and insurance verification processes
- Strong understanding of medical terminology across various specialties including dental terminology if applicable
- Experience in handling administrative support tasks such as filing, data entry (10 key typing), and document management
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse patient populations
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and office management software
- Exceptional customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and clerical experience
