Job Summary:
The Lead Cook is responsible for overseeing meal preparation, ensuring that all food items meet high standards of quality, presentation, and safety. This role leads and coordinates kitchen staff, manages food preparation processes, and ensures the smooth operation of the kitchen during audit events, team lodging, and field offices. The Lead Cook also plays a key role in menu planning, inventory management, and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the kitchen staff in the preparation and cooking of meals, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of food
- Coordinate daily food production activities, including meal prep, cooking, and portioning, to meet event schedules and dietary requirements
- Oversee food presentation and plating to ensure that meals are served according to company standards
- Ensure that all food is prepared in compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment
- Assist in menu planning and collaborate with the Kitchen Manager to develop meal options that meet the needs of the team and special dietary requirements
- Manage kitchen inventory, including monitoring stock levels, ordering ingredients, and ensuring proper storage of food items
- Train, mentor, and provide guidance to kitchen staff, helping to develop their skills and improve kitchen operations
- Assist in maintaining kitchen equipment and reporting any maintenance needs or issues
- Handle food-related concerns, complaints, and dietary restrictions from the audit team in a professional manner
- Ensure all kitchen processes run efficiently, minimizing waste and maximizing productivity
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a cook, with at least 2-3 years in a lead or supervisory role in a kitchen setting
- Strong culinary skills, including knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and presentation standards
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate kitchen staff
Strong organizational and time-management skills to coordinate kitchen operations efficiently - Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and procedures, including proper food storage and sanitation practices
- Ability to adapt to varying dietary requirements and special requests
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required for event schedules
