Job Summary
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated IDD Direct Support Professionals to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves supporting residents in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare, caregiving, or community support services, with a passion for improving the quality of life for those with special needs. Duties
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Provide medication administration and monitor vital signs in accordance with care plans
- Support residents during meals, including meal preparation and feeding as needed
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each resident's needs, including dementia, Alzheimer's, autism, or other developmental disabilities
- Use patient observation techniques to monitor health status and report any concerns promptly
- Operate assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts and ensure proper safety protocols are followed
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties and adhering to infection control standards
- Engage residents in social activities and community outings to promote socialization and independence
- Document care activities accurately while maintaining HIPAA compliance and confidentiality standards
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, families, and team members to ensure comprehensive resident care
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living, nursing homes, or home & community care settings preferred
- Knowledge of patient care procedures including CPR, first aid, and medication administration
- Experience with dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, or hospice is advantageous
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders
- Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and safety oversight
- Physical ability for heavy lifting and assisting residents with mobility using equipment like Hoyer lifts
- Excellent communication skills and patience when working with diverse populations of all ages
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and maintaining confidentiality in healthcare settings
- Valid driver's license is a plus for community outings or transportation needs
