Software Engineer II, Backend (Infrastructure) at Affirm is an opportunity to help build infrastructure that supports cost visibility and financial sustainability across our cloud services. Affirm is reinventing credit with a focus on honest, transparent, and non‑compounding consumer finance solutions.
Responsibilities- Break large projects into smaller tasks, deliver incrementally, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure timely delivery.
- Partner with product management, design, and analytics to articulate technical constraints, propose solutions, and evaluate trade‑offs.
- Support the operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on‑call duties.
- Engage in community and growth activities, including contributing to the interview process and professional development.
- 1.5+ years of software engineering experience, or related academic background.
- Proficiency in Python or Kotlin with experience building backend services.
- Knowledge of distributed system fundamentals and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Experience in cost visibility (e.g., tagging) and/or cost savings through analysis is a plus.
- Strong coding skills: clean, well‑tested, and extensible solutions that integrate multiple components.
- Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging, and providing constructive code reviews.
- Demonstrated ownership of personal growth and proactive feedback seeking.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
Pay Grade: L
Equity Grade: 5
