Job Summary

The tier‑3 network engineer performs proactive work to maintain best practices and ensure steady state operation. The role involves maintaining standards and best practices for network systems, serving as an escalation point for Operations and NOC, troubleshooting reactive incidents, conducting root‑cause analysis for customer incidents and problem management, and handling escalations outside business hours. The engineer must communicate effectively with client services and customers regarding incidents and changes.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • 6+ years of network experience with firewalls, load balancers, routers and switches in on‑prem and cloud environments.
  • Expert knowledge of firewall management, preferably Palo Alto and Fortigate; Cisco ASA experience is a plus.
  • Expert experience with hardware/virtual load balancers such as F5 BigIP and cloud load balancing (AWS, Azure, OCI).
  • Expert knowledge of Zero Trust environments, preferably ZScaler.
  • Expert knowledge of routing and switching, including 802.1q, STP, RSTP, MSTP, VLAN, VXLAN, VRF, and BGP.
  • Expert knowledge of IPSEC VPN tunnels.
  • Proficiency in TCP/IP packet analysis using Wireshark or tcpdump.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills from Layer 1 to Layer 7.
  • Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques and ability to document processes.
  • Ability to design network architecture using industry best practices.
  • Mentor and train junior network peers.
  • Excellent organization and time‑management skills.
  • Experience with high‑availability environments requiring 99.99% SLA.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize work based on business needs.
  • Familiarity with ticket‑handling policies, escalation timelines, and management communication.
  • Understanding of business functions and impact of technical decisions.
  • Planning skills and ability to work within change‑control parameters.
  • Commitment to customer‑focused quality service.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision and thrive under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • F5, Palo Alto, Fortigate, ZScaler, and Arista network certifications.
  • Experience with network automation tools such as Ansible Tower or Python scripting.
  • Experience analyzing NetFlow data.
  • Technical lead or senior escalation experience.
  • Expert knowledge of optical platforms and protocols (plus).
