The Acute Care Program is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (12 months) Program Assistant to work on the Crisis Critical Care Treatment Unit 6. As a member of the inter‑professional team, the Program Assistant is responsible for working with clients from diverse backgrounds. Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will contribute to the organization and optimal function of the unit under the direction of the clinical staff and promote maintenance of the therapeutic milieu. The Program Assistant will contribute to and participate in the assessment of designated clients and will provide direct patient care, particularly through ensuring a safe environment. This role involves incorporating principles of least restraint and spending time on the unit with clients to help minimize agitation. As part of this role you will accompany clients off site for medical clearance and for any other transfers/appointments as deemed necessary. In addition, you will be responsible for communicating both verbally and in writing behavioural observations, assessments and client’s responses to care interventions. In this role you will assume an active role in maintaining both dynamic and static security elements of the program and service. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements. This position requires 12 hour shift rotation, including weekday night shifts and weekend day and night shifts, and is located at 1001 Queen Street West.
Qualifications- Secondary School diploma or equivalent; preference given to candidates with 1 year of experience in a health‑care related field.
- Personal Care Worker Certificate or enrollment in pursuit of a certificate/diploma/degree in a health‑care discipline.
- CPR certification considered an asset.
- Ability to work with diverse clients and staff.
- Effective interpersonal, organisational, problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Experience in a mental‑health or addictions setting preferred.
- Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language considered an asset.
