About

Overview We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join our clean water network team and help Severn Trent invest over £2 billion into construction projects across the next five years. You’ll be part of a fast‑paced, challenging environment where technical exposure and career progression are key. Responsibilities In this role you will support Senior & Principal Engineers to deliver projects on programme, within budget and to high quality standards.
Work to CDM 2015
Understand STW H&S standards
Be (or work towards being) a principal designer
Build, drive and manage your own programme
Deliver to agreed timescales
Design clean water networks
Understand hydraulics within a water system
Understand pipe connectivity
Work with hydraulic modelers to optimise designs
Design with carbon reduction in mind
Prepare key deliverable documents
Undertake site visits
Attend and input at site meetings
Develop and build relationships
Engage & influence stakeholders
Engage in third‑party liaison
Work in a dynamic team
Work with minimal supervision
Learn and deliver to current regulations
Mentor team where appropriate
Challenge standards
You’ll take projects right through from project inception through optioneering, outline and detailed design, and construction support.
Qualifications
Carry out self‑led research on emerging technologies to define new innovative treatment options and collaborate internally and externally to promote new strategies
Support and advise operational teams to maintain the availability and quality of our water network services for customers
Ensure health and safety are built into the lifecycle of the design
Identify and support the review of potential delivery and operational risks (e.g., H&S, environmental, commissioning) through the design process
