Part-Time Community Educator

Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential and day treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking a Community Educator.

PLEASE NOTE THIS POSITION IS PART TIME AND NOT ELGIBLE FOR BENEFITS
Scope:

Education is a core component of Skyland Trail's treatment model. The Community Educator will play a key role in strengthening our educational framework by developing and enhancing curricula for trainees, staff, and community members. This role is responsible for expanding current programming and creating new, accessible learning opportunities that are engaging and impactful. A primary focus will be the formalization of Skyland's intern/trainee program, including the development of standardized policies and training across departments, including adult and adolescent clinical services, psychology, research and outcomes, recreational therapy, art therapy, and more.

Competencies:

Ability to design, refine, and implement educational content tailored to diverse audiences, including interns, students, and professionals.

Skilled in leading groups and providing guidance to interns in a supportive, structured environment.

Ability to coordinate across departments to ensure consistency and quality in education programs.

Comfortable presenting information to audiences of varying knowledge levels in a clear, engaging, and accessible manner.

Capable of designing and delivering training programs for mental health professionals that meet continuing education standards.

Responsive to emerging needs of interns, staff, and community partners; flexible in adapting educational efforts to meet evolving priorities.

Internal Education Responsibilities:

Intern Program Support

Assist with intern interviews, selection, and onboarding processes.

Support initial weekly intern scheduling and hour tracking.

Identify appropriate groups for interns to join; ensure rotation through 1:1 meetings with team members.

Ensure intern attendance at Family Orientation and other organization orientation opportunities.

Collaborate with team to design and continuously improve a structured, rolling intern training curriculum—occasionally involving new PCs.

Maintain comprehensive documentation for the internship program, including:

Group observation feedback forms

Progress through the clinical roadmap

CSSRS and other documentation in accordance with the Joint Commission

Conduct ongoing check-ins with intern supervisors.

Serve as a clinical liaison to pace intern development—ensuring timely progression to leading groups and other clinical responsibilities.

Monitor intern readiness and ensure all interns rotate through core groups during their final semester.

Lead weekly group supervision sessions to foster interns' professional and clinical development.

Manage logistics of session recording procedures.

Develop and maintain a training video library (e.g., CSSRS, treatment planning, documentation, etc.).

Ensure compliance with university affiliation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

Plan and coordinate intern welcome events and end-of-year celebrations.

Track and document intern outcomes post-program.

Standardize intern training materials and procedures across all departments, including:

Research

Clinical (Adolescent & Adult)

Psychology

Psychiatry

Adjunctive Therapies

Staff Education Support

Partner with the Education Director and Clinical Directors to plan and coordinate internal continuing education (CE) events.

Support a wide range of CE opportunities, including Research to Practice, Clinical Supervision, ethics, and telehealth best practices.

Community Education Responsibilities: Respond to community requests for educational content, developing customized trainings and presentations to meet specific needs, including the following:

Develop and deliver tailored educational programs for a wide range of community partners, including nonprofits, faith organizations, businesses, and government agencies.

Example: facilitate a "Mental Health 101" workshop for employees at a local law firm.

Design and present age- and audience-appropriate mental health curricula for high schools and universities in the Atlanta area.

Create and facilitate professional training programs for mental health providers, ensuring alignment with continuing education standards and licensing requirements.

Example: deliver evidence-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) training for school counselors in North Fulton County.

Assist the Director of Education in planning, coordinating, and executing events and community outreach initiatives (conferences, symposiums, lunch and learns, etc.).

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

Attend team and organizational meetings, activities, and events as required.

Ability to seek guidance as appropriate.

Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

Minimum of a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling

Must have current, active licensure in the state of Georgia or on track to have licensure.

Preferred minimum of 1 year of experience in educational programming or community education, preferably in a mental health or clinical setting.

Required Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to systematically track multiple needs/issues simultaneously

Ability to work both independently and in a team while managing time effectively

Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
