The Nurse Practitioner provides high-quality, patient-centered care across inpatient and/or outpatient settings in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. The NP practices evidence-based medicine, supports quality and safety initiatives, and delivers compassionate care aligned with organizational values, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional image and demonstrate excellent customer service in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff in accordance with Service Excellence Standards and Core Values.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, observation, and review of diagnostic data.
  • Formulate diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognoses based on patient condition and clinical findings.
  • Plan, implement, and coordinate patient care to meet holistic, age-specific, and culturally sensitive needs.
  • Provide preventive care services and health education within the scope of practice and under physician collaboration as required.
  • Discuss cases and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and adjust comprehensive plans of care.
  • Admit, evaluate, and manage patients as assigned, including unassigned or direct admissions in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Provide medical consultations and follow-up care, including pre-operative evaluations and coordination with specialists.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, utilization review, discharge planning, and care conferences.
  • Communicate treatment plans, progress, and discharge instructions clearly to patients, families, and care teams.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent clinical situations, including participation in rapid response or resuscitation teams when applicable.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete documentation in the electronic medical record in compliance with medical staff bylaws and regulatory standards.
  • Manage length of stay and contribute to effective use of healthcare resources, diagnostics, and therapies.
  • Coordinate patient handoffs and transitions across the continuum of care using timely verbal and written communication.

Value-Based and Quality-Focused Care

  • Practice evidence-based medicine and follow national quality measures and internal clinical protocols.
  • Minimize unnecessary testing and interventions while maintaining high standards of patient safety and outcomes.
  • Support organizational quality improvement initiatives and system-based practice improvements.
  • Make appropriate referrals and facilitate effective communication among consulting providers.

Professional Conduct and Leadership

  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, compassion, and ethical behavior at all times.
  • Serve as a role model for professional practice and collaborative teamwork.
  • Support colleagues and uphold the standards, bylaws, rules, and regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Participate in medical staff meetings, committees, and required institutional activities as appointed.

Systems-Based Practice

  • Recognize and support patient care across the continuum, ensuring placement in the most appropriate care setting.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve care delivery, patient flow, and system efficiency.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and system improvement efforts related to patient care and safety.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Practice settings may include inpatient units, emergency department, specialty services, or outpatient clinics.
  • Schedule may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, or rotating shifts based on operational needs.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner required.
  • A valid SC RN License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) verified by the LLR.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by an approved accrediting agency.
  • Experience perferred/required varies on position.
