eBay is hiring a senior staff-level engineer to help shape the next generation of its global search platform. This team powers one of the highest-scale, highest-impact systems at eBay, delivering fast, accurate, and relevant search results to millions of users every day. What you'll do

• Own and drive complex technical projects across multiple teams or domains
• Define long-term architecture for high-scale, low-latency search systems
• Review and guide critical designs, ensuring quality, performance, and resilience
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and data teams to align execution with business goals
• Mentor senior engineers and support talent development across the org
• Lead root-cause analysis, long-term fixes, and improvements across the stack
• Contribute to engineering strategy through documentation, design reviews, and technical leadership

What you'll bring

• 10+ years of software development experience with strong CS fundamentals
• Proven experience delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems
• Strong expertise in Java, Python, or similar languages
• Skilled in designing and building high-performance APIs and web services (REST, gRPC, GraphQL)
• Experience with search infrastructure such as Elasticsearch or Lucene is a strong plus
• Strong systems thinking and ability to set long-term architectural direction
• Excellent communication skills and a passion for mentoring and cross-team collaboration
• Degree in Computer Science or related field
