Mission Contribution
To ensure the efficient and cost effective flow of goods and other material to maximize profitability and increase employment and/or training opportunities.
Function
To safely transport items from donations sites to designated processing locations.
Essential Duties
- Ensures World Class customer service to donors and our internal customers.
- Drives a box truck in a safe and efficient manner, complying with all state, federal and local driving laws.
- Performs pre trip and post trip safety inspection on vehicle.
- Monitors truck for proper operation informing the Logistics Manager of necessary repairs or safety hazards.
- Follows a daily dispatched schedule and follows route in a timely manner.
- Safely transport donated goods from donation locations to processing sites.
- Loads and unloads equipment into designated areas at the processing site.
- Communicate route location to the supervisor of the next location.
- Maintains a clean and hazard free truck, using chocks when parking and safety straps to secure donations inside truck.
- Keeps necessary safety equipment in truck as outlined in the transportation manual.
- Minimize accidents by making sure that safety and accident reporting standards are followed and preventive measures are taken.
- Performs assigned duties within the framework of our Mission, Vision, Core Values and Guiding Principles.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or VP Donated Goods Retail.
- Acts as a positive role model for employees in all aspects of professional performance.
- Regular attendance is required as outlined in Goodwills attendance policy.
Skills, knowledge and abilities:

- Must be able to drive an automatic transmission truck.
- Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
- Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
- Must be able to take initiative and work well with little supervision.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, on short notice, including weekends, holidays and occasionally in excess of 40 hours per week.
- Must be able to see and read street signs and signals.
- Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
- Must have a valid drivers license for at least 3 years, must be 21 years of age and be insurable through the agencys insurance carrier.
- Must pass DOT physical and drug screen, including random drug testing as required by the Drug Free Workplace policy.
Experience And Education Requirements
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- One year driving experience training preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. with assistance, regularly.
- Must be able to move equipment on wheels over 100 lbs.
- Must be able to frequent walking, bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Must be able to engage in prolonged sitting while in a moving vehicle.
- Ability to use fingers, hands and wrists, repetitively.
Working Conditions
Frequent physical exertion and exposure to donated goods; regular travel throughout the Gulf Coast area. May be subjected to the usual hazards of highway driving.
