Mechanical Engineer – Product Development & Manufacturing Support

BMZ USA, Inc. develops and produces high-tech lithium-ion battery systems and is looking for an Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

BMZ USA is one of the four development and manufacturing sites of BMZ Group that employs almost 2,000 people worldwide.

In the last 5 years, we have made significant progress in transitioning BMZ USA from a sales office into a development and manufacturing company. But we have just started: New customers and double digit growth are what we have seen and what we are positioned for.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries, chargers, energy storage systems, and production solutions. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners to bring innovative products from concept through production.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Design and draft mechanical parts, assemblies, and detailed prints using SolidWorks.
  • Develop mechanical solutions for injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and 3D printing.
  • Support all phases of the product development lifecycle: concept generation, quotation, design iteration, validation, and mass production.
  • Manage and execute the engineering change process, including documentation, revision control, and workflow integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, industrial design, purchasing, production, and quality.
  • Interface with external vendors, particularly for injection molding, to manage tooling, DFM feedback, and production timelines.
  • Lead and/or participate in the validation of internal and outsourced components and assemblies.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on mechanical concepts, drawings, and designs.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, BOMs, and engineering records.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams and consultation to customers and suppliers.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on electronics packaging and manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of experience with CAD design in SolidWorks, including assemblies, surfacing, and simulation tools.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation tools.

ADDITIONAL VALUED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE (NOT REQUIRED)

  • Deep understanding of injection molded plastics and DFM principles.
  • Knowledge of ingress protection strategies (dust/water sealing).
  • Experience with laser welding technologies.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and ISO/regulated environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
