The Milwaukee Athletic Club (MAC) is a historic, member-focused organization dedicated to delivering a premium wellness, fitness, and social experience. The MAC is seeking a highly motivated, service-driven Assistant Athletic Manager to help oversee our Athletics Department and ensure an exceptional experience for all members and guests.

Position Summary

The Assistant Athletic Manager plays a key leadership role within the Athletics Department, supporting the Athletic Director in managing day-to-day operations and stepping in as the primary point of contact when the Director is not present. This is a front-facing, highly visible role responsible for helping oversee staff, operations, programs, and the member experience.

This role assists with scheduling, oversight of locker rooms, the athletic floor, aquatics, MAC Kids, group exercise, and massage services — while ensuring operational excellence and exceptional hospitality throughout the department.

Key Responsibilities

Department Leadership & Operations

  • Assist the Athletic Director with daily oversight of the Athletics Department.
  • Serve as acting supervisor when the Athletic Director is not present.
  • Support scheduling and staffing across Athletics, including:
  • Swim instructors
  • Massage therapists
  • Fitness floor attendants
  • Personal trainers
  • Locker room attendants
  • Group exercise instructors
  • MAC Kids staff
  • Maintain a strong, visible presence on the floor to support members and staff. This entails checking in with staff and guests alike throughout the shift.

Facility Oversight

  • Oversee the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of:
  • Locker rooms
  • Athletic (fitness) floor
  • Aquatics area
  • MAC Kids space
  • Group exercise studios
  • Massage rooms
  • Ensure equipment, amenities, and athletic facilities are functioning properly and report issues to maintenance.

Member Experience & Service

  • Provide exceptional member service and model MAC's hospitality standards.
  • Engage with members, answer questions, and resolve concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Help maintain a welcoming, community-oriented environment.
  • Be proactive and anticipatory with interactions to help elevate the member experience and meet the needs of the members.

Programming & Support

  • Assist in coordinating group exercise classes, swim lessons/aquatics programming, MAC Kids activities, basketball/pickleball leagues, and massage services.
  • Support new program development, seasonal events, and departmental initiatives.
  • Collaborate with trainers, instructors, and service providers to ensure consistent, high-quality experiences.

Administrative Duties

  • Support scheduling, timecard approvals/verification, attendance tracking, and internal communication.
  • Assist with new staff onboarding and ongoing training.
  • Help maintain inventory of towels, supplies, and program materials.
  • Uphold MAC Operational Procedures and Safety Protocols.

Qualifications

  • Experience in fitness, wellness, recreation, hospitality, or athletics management preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional, dependable, and team-oriented.
  • CPR & First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain within 30–60 days).
  • Supervisory experience or team leadership is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38, $48,000.00 per year
