About

The Electrical Resident Engineer serves as the on-site technical liaison between the OEM customer and the supplier's electrical engineering and manufacturing teams. This role ensures seamless communication, rapid issue resolution, and successful integration of electrical systems and components into vehicle platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of automotive electrical architectures with excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer Interface & Program Support

  • Act as the primary on-site contact for all electrical engineering and validation activities between the supplier and the OEM.
  • Support vehicle build phases, launches, and design reviews, ensuring timely communication of issues and countermeasures.
  • Translate customer requirements, specifications, and change requests into actionable direction for internal engineering teams.
  • Participate in DFMEA, DVP&R, and change management reviews to confirm compliance with program and OEM standards.
  • Support prototype and production builds, troubleshooting electrical and network communication issues (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).

Technical Issue Resolution

  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to wiring harnesses, connectors, control modules, sensors, and network communication.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions (8D, 5-Why) for electrical and functional issues encountered at the OEM site.
  • Support software flashing, ECU updates, and functional validation activities as required by program timing.
  • Provide on-site technical reports, validation updates, and risk assessments to both the supplier and customer teams.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Interface daily with OEM engineering, manufacturing, quality, and validation teams to ensure alignment on design intent and production readiness.
  • Communicate regularly with supplier design, manufacturing, and quality teams to close open issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve electrical design robustness, assembly efficiency, and warranty reduction.
  • Champion continuous improvement in design processes, documentation, and communication flow.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, mechanical, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive electrical systems integration and development.
  • 3+ years of experience in the development of automotive antenna systems.
  • Strong understanding of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, FlexRay).
  • Proficiency in schematic review tools and diagnostic software (e.g., Vector CANoe, INCA, or OEM-specific tools).
  • Familiarity with vehicle electrical architectures.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional OEM environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting vehicle launch or resident engineering roles at an OEM or Tier-1 supplier.
  • Working knowledge of OEM-specific standards and validation processes.
  • Experience with ASPICE, ISO Functional Safety), and cybersecurity principles.
  • Proficiency with project management and issue-tracking tools (e.g., Jira, ADO, OEM systems).
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition, oscilloscope measurements, or harness continuity testing.
