Title: Production Technology Manager
Reports to: General Manager
Location: DMG MORI Manufacturing USA, Davis CA
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Classification: Exempt
Travel: 25%
Employment is conditioned on DMG MORI's ability to obtain and maintain any necessary export licensing.
The Production Technology manager will focus on engineering-related work for Laser Powder-Bed-Fusion (LPBF) programming, operation, process/parameter development and assembly technology. This position requires a solid knowledge of engineering principles, production processes and productivity improvements. - Lead and oversee the full LPBF process lifecycle, from planning through printing and quality validation
- Develop and implement strategic build approaches, including orientation, support strategies, and parameter optimization for complex parts
- Guide and mentor engineering teams in preparing build files and operating LPBF equipment to ensure best practices
- Establish and enforce quality standards for post-processing, inspection, and dimensional verification
- Drive design-for-additive-manufacturing (DfAM) initiatives, providing high-level recommendations to improve part manufacturability and performance
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to align additive strategies with business objectives
- Analyze production data and KPIs to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and implement continuous improvement measures
- Manage technology roadmap, staying current with LPBF advancements and integrating new materials, processes, and equipment
- Develop documentation and governance for LPBF processes, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
- Communicate technical insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree from accredited university in STEM field (Master's or PhD preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, including setting clear goals, providing coaching and feedback, and fostering a collaborative work environment
- 5+ years experience in additive manufacturing, LPBF experience is preferred
- Strong knowledge of DfAM processes and techniques
- Hands-on experience operating and maintaining additive equipment
- Experience with additive manufacturing measurement techniques including part density and tensile measurements
- Strongly preferred knowledge in control of metal cutting, CNC programming, and additive manufacturing.
- Proven flexibility with shifting priorities.
- Strong analytical/problem solving abilities.
Work Environment:
Exposure to manufacturing/machining environments which may present possible hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery. General office environment experienced at DMG MORI office.
Physical Demands:
Frequent: Travel, operating a vehicle, standing, walking, bending, squatting, stooping, sitting and reaching. Pushing, pulling, and lifting objects. Repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements.
Periodic: Operating power equipment, sitting at desk, utilizing computers and phones.
Occasional: Lifting or moving up to 50lbs
