About
The Maintenance Utilities Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, maintenance, and reliability of all plant utility systems, including boilers, chillers, compressed air, water treatment, wastewater, HVAC, and supporting infrastructure. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all utility assets to support continuous production. The supervisor leads a team of skilled maintenance technicians, prioritizes work, supports troubleshooting, and drives preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management
Lead, schedule, and develop a team of Utilities Maintenance Technicians across all shifts.
Provide technical guidance, on-the-floor coaching, performance feedback, and skill development plans.
Promote a safety-first culture, enforcing all company and regulatory safety standards.
Ensure proper training and certification for all team members working on utility systems.
Oversee daily operation and maintenance of utility systems: boilers, ammonia refrigeration/chillers, cooling towers, compressed air, HVAC, water treatment, wastewater systems, and plant-wide distribution networks.
Monitor system performance, identify inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
Support troubleshooting during equipment failures to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.
Partner with Production, Engineering, and EHS to ensure utilities meet all operational requirements.
Prioritize, assign, and review work orders in the CMMS system.
Ensure timely completion of PMs, PdMs, calibrations, and compliance-related maintenance tasks.
Collaborate with the Maintenance Planner to develop and optimize preventive maintenance strategies.
Manage spare parts needs and coordinate with the storeroom for inventory optimization.
Ensure all utility operations comply with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations.
Maintain documentation and readiness for inspections related to boilers, ammonia refrigeration, wastewater discharge, and other regulated systems.
Lead and participate in incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action development.
Qualifications
Required
3–5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, utilities operation, or related field.
Experience with utility systems such as boilers, chillers, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, water treatment, or wastewater.
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong troubleshooting and mechanical/electrical aptitude.
Working knowledge of CMMS systems.
Ability to work flexible hours or support off-shifts as operational needs arise.
Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and employee development.
