Role Overview:
H-E-B is seeking an experienced
Senior Staff Software Engineer / Principal Engineer / Enterprise Architect
to provide strategic and hands-on technical leadership across multiple enterprise business domains. This role will be supporting the design, architecture, and implementation of
enterprise-wide solutions

Human Resources, Accounting/Finance, Legal, and Call Center operations

This individual will serve as a
trusted technical authority
, partnering closely with business and technology stakeholders to modernize platforms, unify workflows, and deliver scalable, secure, and future-ready systems. The ideal candidate brings deep enterprise architecture experience, strong systems thinking, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into well-designed technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Architecture & Technical Leadership
- Define, evolve, and enforce
enterprise architecture standards, reference architectures, and best practices
across HR, Finance, Legal, and Call Center systems. - Act as a senior technical advisor, influencing architectural decisions across multiple programs and initiatives.
- Provide architectural guidance during solution design, development, and implementation phases.
Case Management & Workflow Solutions
- Architect and implement
scalable case management platforms
that unify workflows across business functions. - Enable consistent intake, routing, tracking, reporting, and compliance for enterprise case-based processes.
- Drive improvements in operational efficiency, transparency, and user experience across departments.
Cross-Domain Integration
- Design and oversee
API-driven integrations
between enterprise platforms including HRIS, ERP, CRM, legal case tools, and contact center solutions. - Implement integration patterns that support data consistency, fault tolerance, and long-term maintainability.
- Collaborate with platform owners to ensure interoperability and alignment with enterprise standards.
Technology Strategy & Stakeholder Partnership
- Partner with business leaders, product owners, and IT leadership to align
technology roadmaps
with organizational goals. - Translate business needs into technical strategies, solution designs, and implementation plans.
- Support enterprise modernization efforts while balancing short-term delivery with long-term architectural health.
Scalability, Performance & Reliability
- Design systems for
high availability, resilience, and horizontal scalability
. - Anticipate future growth and ensure architectures support evolving business demands.
- Guide performance optimization and capacity planning efforts.
Security, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure architectures meet
security, privacy, and regulatory requirements
across HR, financial, and legal domains. - Incorporate secure design principles, identity management, access controls, and auditability.
- Support compliance initiatives related to SOX, GDPR, HIPAA, and other applicable frameworks.
Mentorship & Engineering Excellence
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Promote best practices in software design, documentation, testing, and delivery.
- Lead by example through hands-on architectural design and technical problem solving.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 5+ years in senior-level roles such as
Principal Engineer, Senior Staff Engineer, or Enterprise Architect
. - Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise-scale solutions across multiple business domains.
Technical Expertise
- Strong background in
distributed systems
,
microservices architecture
, and
enterprise integration patterns
. - Experience with cloud platforms such as
Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
. - Proven ability to design complex, highly integrated enterprise systems.
Domain & Platform Knowledge
- Experience working with:
- HR systems
(e.g., Workday) - ERP / Accounting platforms
(SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft) - Legal or compliance-driven systems
- Call center technologies
(Amazon Connect, Five9) - Case management platforms
(ServiceNow, Salesforce Service Cloud)
Programming & Data
- Proficiency in one or more enterprise languages such as
Java, C#, or Python
. - Strong understanding of
relational and NoSQL databases
, data modeling, and data governance. - Experience supporting analytics, reporting, and operational insights.
Security & Compliance
- Working knowledge of enterprise security principles and regulatory frameworks including
GDPR, SOX, HIPAA
, and similar standards.
Communication & Influence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with and influence
senior leadership and executive stakeholders
. - Comfortable operating in complex, matrixed enterprise environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading or supporting
enterprise digital transformation initiatives
across multiple domains. - Exposure to or implementation of
emerging technologies

- Prior experience in large-scale retail, consumer, or regulated enterprise environments.
