Position Overview
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides comprehensive speech and language services to students at Windsor Locks Middle School and the RISE Transition Academy. The SLP works collaboratively with educators, families, and related service providers to support communication, language development, social-pragmatic skills, and transition readiness for students with diverse learning needs. This position emphasizes functional communication, independence, and community integration aligned with district mission and core values.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluation and Eligibility
- Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments as part of initial, triennial, and re-evaluation processes
- Interpret evaluation results for the PPT team, develop diagnostic summaries, and make recommendations for eligibility and service delivery.
- Maintain compliance with State and Federal timelines, documentation, and procedural safeguards.
Service Delivery
- Provide direct and consultative speech-language services to students in individual, small-group, and inclusive settings.
- Develop and implement IEP goals targeting expressive/receptive language, articulation, fluency, social-pragmatic communication, and functional communication.
- Utilize evidence-based practices and assistive technology/AAC tools to enhance student participation and engagement.
- Support functional communication and employability skills for students in the RISE Transition Academy across school, community, and work-based settings.
Collaboration and Consultation
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, related service providers, BCBAs, and paraprofessionals to integrate communication goals across all environments.
- Participate actively in PPT meetings, data teams, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Provide training and coaching to staff on communication strategies, augmentative communication, and universal design for learning (UDL) approaches.
- Partner with families, community agencies, and adult service providers to ensure successful transition planning for students 18–22.
Documentation and Compliance
- Complete CT-SEDS documentation, progress monitoring, Medicaid billing, and service logs in accordance with district and state requirements.
- Collect and analyze data to evaluate student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards (ASHA Code of Ethics / FERPA).
Qualifications: Must have valid Connecticut Certification Number: 061.
