About the Role

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Data Solutions, this Data Architect role is a critical technical and leadership position overseeing the complete data ecosystem architecture for Healthcare Systems of America (HSA). You will be influential in design and govern secure, scalable, and compliant data solutions essential for supporting clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and mandated regulatory reporting across our hospital group.

Key Responsibilities

ArchitectureStrategy

  • Building scalable data models and strategies that specifically support clinical informatics, population health management, and financial reporting (e.g., claims/billing/operations/quality).
  • Help design modern, high-performance data infrastructure (Lakehouse, EDW) utilizing MPP platforms (Snowflake, Synapse) optimized for massive volumes of EHR, claims, financial, payroll and other relevant data.
  • Documenting technical standards and architectural decisions, with a specific focus on healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) when applicable.
  • Fine-tuning datamarts /datawarehouse for optimal query performance and cost efficiency.
  • Potentially research new data acquisition methods, including integrating real-time streams from patient monitoring systems and external registries.

Data GovernanceCompliance

  • Ensuring data security and patient privacy through rigorous implementation of controls mandated by HIPAA and HITECH across all data movement and storage when applicable.
  • Establishing a robust data architecture framework that includes formal policies for sensitive data handling, data retention, and any regulatory compliance when applicable.
  • Auditing datamarts /datawarehouse regularly to maintain data quality, consistency, and lineage for compliance and clinical accuracy.

Data IntegrityMaintenance

  • Manage Master Data Management (MDM) features for core healthcare entities (Patient, Provider, Facility).
  • Maintaining data integrity and structure within the defined architectural framework.

Qualifications Required

  • 6+ years in data architecture, data engineering, application architecture, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of experience in healthcare payer or provider environments, working with claims, EMR/EHR, HL7, FHIR, or clinical/operational data.
  • Proven experience delivering BI/semantic models (e.g., Power BI) optimized for scale, performance, and cost.
  • Expert level knowledge in enterprise data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical) and EDW designs.
  • Ability to drive architectural decisions and influence cross-functional teams.

Technical Expertise

  • Mastery of MPP data platforms such as Snowflake or Azure Synapse.
  • Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and data warehousing/lake architectures.
  • Solid understanding of data integration, ETL/ELT processes, ingestion frameworks, and data pipeline orchestration.
  • Skilled in SQL, and scripting languages like Python for data transformation and automation.
  • Deep understanding of data governance, security standards, metadata management, data lineage, and lifecycle management.
