Job Description
Vertex is seeking a talented scientist to join our Analytical Development group in Boston, MA. This individual will help advance transformative medicines treating the underlying cause of serious diseases by contributing to analytical chemistry activities for small molecule programs in early development (preclinical through Phase 1). Responsibilities include analytical support of process and formulation development activities, characterization and stability of drug substance and drug products, as well as contributing scientifically to the resolution of broader drug development challenges in collaboration with other R&D functions. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of laboratory techniques commonly used in the analysis of pharmaceuticals such as LC, GC, and KF.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Designs, executes, and interprets experiments, with a high degree of reliability and independence. Compiles results into conclusions or recommendations for discussions with manager
Performs method development experiments (LC, GC, KF) in collaboration with Subject Matter Expert (SME) teams
Designed and executes phase appropriate stability studies for drug substance and drug products
Maintains accurate laboratory notebooks
Presents results at internal Project Team research meetings
Performs experimental troubleshooting
Contributes collaboratively to team goals
Knowledge/Skills:
The ability to work successfully in a team/matrix environment
The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities, and maintain timelines for multiple projects
Proven technical proficiency and demonstrated skill in designing, executing and interpreting experiments. Uses own judgment to execute follow-up experiments, including troubleshooting
Understanding of LC, KF, GC, and other techniques commonly used for pharmaceutical analysis and how they are applied. Fundamental understanding of method development and validation of these techniques
Demonstrates understanding of own discipline and aspects of drug development regulations and compliance
Demonstrates ability to provide high quality data collected in a compliant fashion in support of regulatory submissions and/or manufacturing
Demonstrates effective, self-sufficient communication skills, especially in peer/team discussions
Good written and verbal communication skills
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) and 4+ years of experience in analytical development program or other analytical support function, or
Master's degree (or equivalent degree) and 0-2 years of experience in analytical development program or other analytical support function
Pay Range:
$70,400 - $105,600
Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
