The Buildings and Grounds Supervisor at Prospect High School is a supervisory/leadership position responsible for the comprehensive control, management, and security of the entire facility and campus. This role requires close collaboration with the Director of Operations and School Administration to ensure that the physical environment fully supports the school's mission, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, maintenance, and repair.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
I. Team Leadership & Management:
- Supervise Staff: Directly assign specific job functions, oversee the execution of tasks, and ensure the quality and quantity of all work performed by custodial and maintenance staff.
- Performance & Training: Prepare and deliver performance evaluations for all direct reports and actively support the establishment of a suitable training program to enhance team capabilities.
- Labor Management: Accurately complete and submit weekly time reporting and ensure all overtime opportunities are posted correctly, adhering strictly to the bargaining agreement guidelines.
II. Facilities Operations & Maintenance:
- Workload Prioritization: Review all incoming work orders, assess needs, and establish clear priorities for the efficient and timely accomplishment of maintenance and repair tasks.
- Contracted Work: Take full responsibility for the quality and oversight of work performed by all contracted services within the area of school properties.
- Inventory & Purchasing: Initiate requisitions for necessary supplies and equipment, securing proper approval from the Associate Principal and District Administration.
- Maintenance Support: Provide expert assistance and support as required to all maintenance personnel working within the building.
III. Safety & Administration:
- Safety Compliance: Monitor and reinforce all fire and safety regulations to ensure the building and properties are protected from hazards and maintain operational readiness.
- Budget Support: Assist in the preparation of the annual building and grounds budget, contributing data and insights for sound fiscal planning.
- Emergency Response: Remain on-call 24 hours a day for critical building emergencies.
- District Engagement: Participate in special assignments and projects as required by the Building or District Administration.
Qualifications and Requirements
I. Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED is required, supplemented by additional education, training, and experience.
- Supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
- Highly Desired Certifications: The Association of Facility Engineers (AFE) Certified Professional Maintenance Management (CPMM) and Certified Professional Supervision (CPS) accreditations.
- Demonstrated experience and in-depth knowledge of building custodial and maintenance operations.
- Proven understanding of the operation of complex building and grounds equipment, including modern HVAC systems.
II. Core Competencies:
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability in planning, organizing, and directing personnel and resources.
- Administrative Acumen: Demonstrated ability to handle administrative responsibilities, including budgeting, preventative maintenance tracking, and utilizing energy management systems (EMS).
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, students, and the public, while exhibiting patience and understanding in a diverse school environment.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills necessary to foster a cooperative working relationship with school administration and staff.
Length of position: Full Year
Salary Range: Supervisory Salary Grade 5 - $99,727- $124,658 (to be prorated)
