Overview We are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Manager in Lancaster to lead the mechanical design function for a well-established M&E building services contractor.
This is a senior, hands‑on role for someone who can balance technical quality with pace and practicality. You'll oversee mechanical design delivery across multiple projects, guide engineers through the full design lifecycle, and work closely with pre‑construction and delivery teams to make sure solutions are buildable, compliant, and commercially sensible.
About the Company Our client is a long‑standing North‑West M&E contractor delivering mechanical and electrical building services solutions from early design through to installation and handover.
They have a strong in‑house design capability and a collaborative approach between design, commercial and operations. Client name will remain confidential during early stages of the process.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leading mechanical design delivery across multiple building services projects
Managing workflow, priorities, and resource across the mechanical design team
Producing and reviewing mechanical designs including HVAC, ventilation and public health
Overseeing calculations, specifications, schedules and equipment selection
Coordinating with electrical design, BIM and wider project teams to resolve clashes and queries early
Supporting tender and pre‑construction activity with design input and technical clarity
Attending design meetings, contributing to design reviews, and managing consultant and client interactions where required
Setting standards for drawing quality, document control, and design QA across the team
Mentoring engineers and supporting their technical development
Skills & Experience Required
Strong background in mechanical building services design, with experience leading or managing a team
Confident delivering designs through RIBA stages and supporting projects from concept to construction
Good working knowledge of current UK building regulations and industry standards
Comfortable coordinating within a BIM environment (Revit experience beneficial)
Clear communicator with the ability to challenge, influence, and keep designs moving
Organised approach to deadlines, documentation, and technical approvals
Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in mechanical engineering or building services
Benefits
Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 depending on experience
