Job SummaryThe Program Manager coordinates all aspect of the Law Enforcement Academy including effective marketing, student recruitment, and scheduling for both Special Function and Law Enforcement Officer classes. They monitor expenses and ensure the program meets Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements. This person will collaborate with local law enforcement agencies and POST to reserve or procure equipment, facilities, and other resources to support the program.
The Program Manager oversees the recruitment and hiring of adjunct instructors. Job responsibilities also include scheduling instructors according to their expertise, maintaining equipment, proctoring exams, student remediation, maintaining payroll tracking, and conducting group interviews with prospective students.
This position requires building relationships with local law enforcement agencies to support recruitment. The Program Manager will be expected to teach classes for which they are subject matter experts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & AbilitiesEssential Duties & Responsibilities
Instructing
Instruct academy classes on area of expertise.
Recruiting
- Reach out to potential cadets, conducting group interviews.
- POST application review.
- Maintain professional relationships with local Law Enforcement community.
Scheduling
- Recruit and hire qualified instructors.
- Build and maintain daily schedules for the Special Function and Law Enforcement Officer Academy.
- Assign instructors and make contact daily for classes.
- Coordinate and lead graduation.
Day to Day Operations
- Take roll call.
- Monitor required hours and student absences.
- Answer questions and mentor students who are struggling as needed.
- Act as a PT instructor and lead classes.
- Instruct classes.
- Maintain equipment.
Mentor and Educate
- Maintain personnel files on each student for reference when recommending for positions with agencies.
- Maintain files in Canvas and ACADIS.
Testing
- Perform review before test.
- Create test in ACADIS and proctor.
- Remediate and retest.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Ability to organize tasks.
- Understand and perform general office procedures.
- Experience in Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of Canvas and ACADIS computer systems preferred.
- Knowledge of Peace Officer Standard and Training Policy and Procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Ten (10) years experience in law enforcement.
- Previous completion of State or Federal POST or similar certification.
Trade off year for year law enforcement experience for bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications- Higher education experience
- Previous POST instructor experience.
- Knowledge of college procedures and requirements preferred.
- Knowledge of Canvas and ACADIS computer systems preferred.
