We are seeking a strong, hands-on Terminal Manager to oversee all operational, safety, and personnel functions at our Winchester, VA facility.

Position Overview

The Terminal Manager leads daily operational execution, driver performance, route planning, compliance, customer support, and financial oversight. This role requires a leader who excels in high-velocity, time-critical transportation environments with multiple daily dispatch cycles, scanning/visibility requirements, and precise delivery standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership **

  • Oversee all daily terminal operations, including dispatching, route execution, and service performance.
  • Manage a multi-route, time-sensitive distribution operation with strict cut-off and delivery windows.
  • Ensure all scanning, chain-of-custody, and documentation protocols are executed consistently.
  • Maintain control over load quality, trailer organization, staging accuracy, and outbound readiness.
  • Monitor real-time route activity, proactively resolving exceptions, delays, or service failures.
  • Conduct daily operational huddles, including pre-trip and post-trip reviews.
  • Oversee cross-dock workflow, including inbound receiving, outbound sortation, and dock labor efficiency.

Driver & Personnel Management

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and develop drivers and dispatch personnel.
  • Manage driver qualification files and ensure full compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations.
  • Enforce safety policies, conduct accident/incident investigations, and lead corrective actions.
  • Coach drivers on performance, productivity, scanning compliance, and service standards.
  • Handle scheduling, coverage needs, call-outs, and capacity adjustments.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement **

  • Serve as primary operational contact for customers, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide timely updates, service recovery actions, and communication on any operational issues.
  • Uphold high customer service standards across all distribution and delivery activities.Financial & KPI Management
  • Maintain terminal P&L performance, including budgets, payroll, cost controls, and utilization.
  • Track KPIs such as on-time performance, route efficiency, scan compliance, and claims.
  • Implement process improvements to reduce cost, improve productivity, and enhance service quality.Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety policies.
    • Maintain accurate reporting, logs, equipment inspections, and regulatory documentation.
  • Lead safety meetings, driver audits, and terminal-level compliance initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of transportation or logistics management experience.
  • Experience overseeing multi-route, time-sensitive distribution preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA and OSHA compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead drivers and operational teams.
  • Strong analytical skills for reviewing KPIs, financials, and operational trends.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and transportation management tools.
  • High accountability, self-direction, and ability to manage shifting priorities.
  • Must be able to relocate to Winchester, VA prior to start date.
