Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will support optometrists in providing exceptional eye care services, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and maintaining accurate patient records. This role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic medical environment, utilizing both clinical and administrative skills to enhance patient experiences and outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient intake procedures, including collecting medical histories and verifying insurance information
  • Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation levels
  • Prepare patients for eye examinations by performing preliminary tests and assessments
  • Operate ophthalmic diagnostic equipment with proper aseptic technique to ensure accurate results
  • Support the clinical team in maintaining sterile environments and adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality
  • Manage electronic medical records (EMR) systems like Epic and other EMR platforms efficiently
  • Assist with optical tasks including lens measurements, frame selection, and retail sales of eyewear products
  • Perform basic medical coding and billing procedures related to ophthalmology services
  • Maintain organized medical records and ensure compliance with healthcare standards
  • Provide front desk support by scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and managing clinic flow
  • Engage in retail math calculations for sales transactions and inventory management
  • Support pediatric patients during examinations and assist in pediatric ophthalmology procedures as needed

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of patient care protocols within ophthalmology or optometry settings
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security
  • Experience with intake procedures, vital signs measurement, and clinical documentation
  • Proficiency in aseptic technique to prevent contamination during examinations or procedures
  • Optical experience including lens measurements, frame fitting, and retail sales skills
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology practices, medical terminology, physiology, anatomy related to the eye, and clinic operations
  • Experience with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing electronic health records
  • Background in medical office administration including front desk duties, scheduling, billing, coding, and insurance processing
  • Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills for effective inventory control and customer transactions
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining attention to detail
