Position Title: Facilities Technician
Division: Finance & Operations 
Department: Facilities & Custodial
Reports to: Director of Facilities 
FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
 
Pacific Science Center is looking for a Facilities Technician to assist in the maintenance, upkeep and safety of facilities for Pacific Science Center guests.  The Facilities Technician must have experience in building/facilities maintenance and be proficient or capable in at least two of the following areas: painting, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, Electrical or preventative maintenance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
ASSET MAINTENANCE: Contribute to an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment for Pacific Science Center guests by maintaining all buildings and equipment. Regular duties will include:
  • Painting
  • Plumbing
  • Carpentry
  • Maintaining Ponds
  • HVAC Maintenance
  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 
Knowledge of
  • Trades and technician skillsets
  • Proper use of hand tools, cleaning products and technical equipment
  • Safety best practices
  • Security systems and locks
  • Fire Panels and systems

Skills
  • Technical skills such as, but not limited to: painting, plumbing, carpentry, grounds repair, HVAC maintenance and other preventative maintenance skills
  • Lock pinning skills a plus
  • Great communication skills including verbal and listening
  • Computer skills a plus
  • Exemplary customer service skill sets

Ability to
  • Self-starting, proactive approach in accomplishing scheduled tasks and assist in resolving any additional recognized facility needs
  • Interact with guests in an excited way; enjoys interfacing with the public throughout the day
  • Be a smiling team player; provide uplifting service to guests as well as internal parties
  • Follow directions and adhere to safety protocol; master procedures
  • Be dependable and punctual
  • Multi-task and respond to shifting priorities

Qualifications
Required 
  • Prior roles or work experience in building/facilities maintenance
  • Proven dependability and punctuality
Preferred
  • Maintenance experience in public settings and spaces (museums, parks and recreation settings, city spaces or programs)

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Working conditions for this role include: working around older equipment in an exhibit and guest-centric space with limited supplies. Conducting work in spaces that at times contain guests or non-maintenance co-workers. Safety is the most critical priority at all times.
 
This position is physical in nature and requires the ability to lift and use heavy equipment (40 lbs. unassisted and 80 lbs. assisted), ability to use ladders and lifts, climb stairs, kneel, squat, bend and reach. Some tasks may require you to work outside so the ability to tolerate heat/cold is important as well as work outside in the weather (maintenance projects include open-air exhibits and extensive pool upkeep). Exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals (paints, solvents, lubricants). Operate equipment (pool cleaner, drain auger, electronic hand tools, and pressure washer). Operate vehicles (van, truck, scissor lift, fork lift, boom lift). Personal protective equipment should be worn at appropriate times (goggles, gloves, ear plugs, hard hats, face mask). Wear uniform or other appropriate attire.

Compensation

Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.

Starting Base Salary Range: $ $28.80

In addition to base salary, regular employees working 40 hrs/week can expect the following benefits:
