About the Role

The New York State Department of Labor seeks an Expert Database Architect to support its UISIM and Data Warehouse modernization projects.
You will provide senior-level database architecture, modeling, and performance optimization across DB2, Oracle, IBM DataStage, Cognos, and Snowflake systems within a Red Hat Linux environment. This role blends hands-on administration, data modeling, and AI/ML data preparation within a highly collaborative, multi-platform data ecosystem.

What You'll Do

• Monitor and tune databases (DB2, Oracle, Snowflake) for performance, security, and reliability.
• Maintain and enhance data models using Erwin Data Modeler to reflect evolving business logic.
• Support IBM Cognos Analytics report development, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Oversee ETL processes using IBM DataStage; optimize data integration pipelines.
• Manage metadata and lineage in IBM Cloud Pak for Data / Knowledge Catalog.
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with state data governance standards.
• Collaborate with analysts, developers, and data scientists to align architecture and business goals.
• Document work performed and maintain technical knowledge base entries.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 84+ months (7 years) of DB2, Oracle, Google Cloud, or similar database administration on bare-metal Red Hat Linux, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and backup/recovery.
• 84+ months of Red Hat Linux administration and troubleshooting experience.
• 84+ months of data modeling experience using Erwin Data Modeler (OLTP/OLAP).
• 84+ months with IBM Cognos Analytics (Framework Manager, Report Studio, Data Modules).
• 60+ months of Oracle data warehousing and performance tuning experience.
• 60+ months with IBM DataStage (design, development, ETL monitoring).
• 60+ months with IBM Cloud Pak for Data / Knowledge Catalog for metadata and governance.
• 84+ months of Snowflake Data Warehouse development and optimization.
• 84+ months with AI/ML data pipelines, including model training data preparation.
• Strong communication and cross-team collaboration skills.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with Google Cloud, BigQuery, or AWS data platforms.
• Familiarity with state or federal data warehouse environments.
• Certifications: IBM Certified Data Engineer, SnowPro Core, or Oracle Database Certified Professional.
