Product Development Engineer – Automotive (Midwest Region)

We are updating our search and actively seeking a
Product Development Engineer
with a strong background in the
automotive industry
, preferably located in or willing to relocate to the
Midwest region
.

Position Overview

The Product Development Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, testing, and improving automotive components and systems. This role requires hands-on engineering expertise, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to drive projects from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the development of new automotive products, components, and systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, testing, and quality
  • Perform CAD modeling, design validation, and engineering analysis
  • Conduct product testing, troubleshooting, and design refinement
  • Manage engineering documentation, BOMs, ECNs, and design reviews
  • Ensure designs meet performance, safety, cost, and regulatory requirements
  • Support prototype builds and production launch activities
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges throughout the development process

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • 3–10+ years of experience in
    automotive product development
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or similar)
  • Experience with GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, and engineering documentation
  • Strong understanding of automotive components, mechanisms, and manufacturing processes
  • Hands-on experience in testing, prototyping, and validation
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with sheet metal, structural components, or chassis systems
  • Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM/PDM systems)
  • Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement practices
  • Midwest-based candidates strongly preferred (or open to relocation)
