**Job summary:**
The Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilledmaintenance, repair, and
inspection on County buildings, grounds equipment, utilities, and
related systems. The position will use a variety of hand, power and
other needed tools and equipment, along with accepted and best practices
to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for County services, patrons,
and employees. This position also completes administrative tasks that
are essential to the functioning of the Maintenance Department as
assigned or as necessary.The principal duties of this position are
performed in a public building environment, at detention facilities, at
elevated heights or outdoors in various weather conditions.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
The position assumes responsibility and performs tasks in the following
areas:
\
**Outdoor Maintenance:**
- Conducts daily walking inspections of grounds, parking lots, and
common areas for assigned facilities,
- Maintains grounds, including sidewalks, parking lots, common areas,
and planted areas, by picking up litter and trash, mowing grass,
weeding, and irrigating assigned grounds.
- Maintains and repairs outdoor sprinkler and irrigation systems,
- Performs snow removal duties, including sanding and salting of
walkways, and
- Performs the painting of outdoor structures, along with graffiti
removal duties.

**Indoor Maintenance:**
- Assists with responding to and completing maintenance and repair
requests,
- Assists with scheduled maintenance, repair, and installation work on
electrical, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and plumbing
systems,
- Assists with construction work and painting on County buildings,
including remodel projects,
- Performs maintenance and janitorial work in restrooms and assists in
cleaning spills as needed.

**Other Duties and Responsibilities:**
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County
policies, procedures, and safety policies,
- Creates, maintains and files required work order and other
maintenance records,
- Performs inventory control duties, and orders cleaning and other
needed supplies from vendors through established purchasing
practices and venues,
- Assists with completing and documenting periodic (weekly, monthly,
annual) preventative maintenance schedules,
- Assists with employee safety programs and initiatives,
- Assists with monitoring work projects performed by inmate and
community service crews,
- May be assigned basic bookkeeping duties and monitoring of
receivables and expenses,
- May be called outside of typical work hours to respond to emergency
facility situations, and
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or necessary
to accomplish County and department objectives.

**Competency Requirements:**
This position obtains, possesses, and deploys the following knowledge,
skills, and abilities to effectively perform their responsibilities:

**Knowledge Of:**
- County, department and professional policies, procedures, codes, and
practices regarding effective and safe maintenance duties and the
use of power tools, ladders and power lifts, and cleaning and other
chemicals,
- Baisc accounting principles and procedures, basic mathematical
computations,and understanding of purchase orders and invoices, and
- A basic to intermediate level understanding of Microsoft Office,
Excel, and Outlook.

**Skills To:**
- Communicate effectively and professionally, verbally or in writing,
while providing exceptional customer service to patrons, co-workers,
and all others who visit, call, or write to the department,
- Operat e hand tools, painting equipment, power tools, motor vehicles,
snow removal and lawn care equipment and other tools and equipment
needed to complete assignments,
- Operate standard office equipment, internet-based programs, and a
personal computer using program applications required to complete
assigned duties, and
- Be organized and effectively create, file, and maintain required
maintenance work orders, scheduled maintenance documents, reports,
Financial Records And Other Required Records.
