About
JOB PURPOSE
- Looking for a better quality of life, or a a chance to gain real-world healthcare experience prior to seeking an advanced degree in a medical field (i.e., MD, RN, NP, PA, PT, etc.). Make a difference and join our team as a hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) technician. No HBOT experience required (training is provided by 8th Element), Provides hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments to patients approved to receive hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments by a center provider. Performs all equipment start up and shut down functions, quality controls, and maintenance functions, as identified and trained on, to ensure a safe environment for patient care, in the delivery of hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Educate and orient patients about the delivery of hyperbaric medicine oxygen treatments ("HBOT");
- Complete and document all daily startup and shutdown functions, quality assurance functions, and maintenance functions;
- Accurately obtain and document pre-treatment patient assessment, which will include vital signs, fingerstick glucose, as indicated, and pre-treatment questions, and submit to provider for review and approval or disapproval, prior to the start of daily HBOT;
- Accurately obtain and document post-treatment patient assessment, which will include vital signs, fingerstick glucose, as indicated, and submit to provider for review and approval or disapproval, for discharge after daily HBOT;
- Safely transport patients to and from the hyperbaric chamber;
- Provide excellent customer service to patients referred to the center, and their accompanying family members and/or caregivers;
- Safely operate and maintain the hyperbaric chamber, and notify safety director and provider on duty of any mechanical challenges or failures experienced, and complete all corrective action, as indicated;
- Accurately document and maintain required information in the chamber dive log;
- Ensure all patients entering the chamber are compliant with the list of items prohibited to enter the chamber;
- Ensure all patients entering the chamber are wearing the approved scrubs and are wearing approved shoe covers;
- Report all medical emergencies to provider on duty, and address accordingly, and as directed by the provider on duty;
- Accurately document patient medical information in electronic health record;
- Clean hyperbaric chamber with approved cleaning agents at end of every shift;
- Maintain all maintenance and service records on all equipment at the center;
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, NFPA, DOL, CMS and commercial payers;
- Maintain compliance with all 8th Element quality assurance programs;
- Maintain professional relationship with all center staff;
- Maintain professional relationship with 8th Element administration and staff;
- Assist office manager with administrative functions, as directed by center director;
- Perform other duties as directed;
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school degree or equivalent;
- Current EMT licensure;
- Current BLS certification;
- Experience with various software applications, such as MicroSoft Office Products, to include Word and Excel;
- Experience in documenting protected health care information in EHR products, preferred;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to work rotating weekend shifts as needed;
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to function in hyperbaric chamber environments;
- Must have full range of body motion;
- Ability to move and/or transport patients to/from wheelchairs and treatment chairs;
- Must be able to exert, lift and/or move a minimum of 50 lbs occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs frequently, in order to lift, carry, push, pull, grip or otherwise move objects, including the human body;
- Other physical demands: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, bending, seeing, climbing and digital dexterity and sensitivity;
- Must be able to physically perform CPR;
