Accounting Manager
About the Job

A midsize law firm focused on litigation and appellate work is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day financial operations, including billing, collections, reporting, and general accounting functions. This role reports to the firm's senior financial leader and plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial practices, smooth month-end processes, and strong internal support across departments. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on law firm accounting experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead a small team in a fast-paced professional services environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the firm's full billing cycle, including preparation, review, and submission of client invoices and handling complex or customized billing needs.
  • Oversee e-billing processes, from onboarding new matters to resolving submission issues and handling invoice rejections.
  • Maintain and update the firm's timekeeping and billing system (e.g., TABS3), including rate adjustments, timekeeper setup, origination data, and client/matter records.
  • Monitor outstanding receivables, unapplied funds, and collection activity to support cash flow and financial accuracy.
  • Lead the month-end close process, perform reconciliations, and help prepare internal financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain organized financial records, ensure accurate GL data, and support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll and assist with various financial surveys, questionnaires, and external reporting requests.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff to address financial inquiries and support ad-hoc projects as needed.
  • Provide guidance to billing staff and help refine accounting procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; accounting major preferred. CPA a plus.
  • 3–5 years of law-firm or professional-services accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient with accounting systems, Microsoft Office, and law-firm platforms such as TABS3.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working independently in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong client-service approach and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Houston, Texas, United States
