JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner with Psych works collaboratively with psychiatrist to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret tests results, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients for any additional care needed. The Nurse Practitioner with Psych is responsible for the fulfillment of all obligations as noted by their professional association and credentialing parties.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES

  1. Performs examinations and formulates holistic treatment plan of patients.

  2. Counsels and educates patients regarding their mental health or delegates such education to a competent source.

  3. Recognizes complicated mental health conditions that require referrals.

  4. Provide ongoing case management, while staying current with emerging trends and techniques, issues and approaches in the mental health related field.

  5. Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for all psychiatric emergency situations.

  6. Prescribes, monitors and teaches patients the use of medications and other treatments.

  7. Initiates requests for laboratory studies as needed and identifies normal and abnormal findings, interpret and initiate plan of care alterations as indicated.

  8. Utilizes quality improvement data to enhance patient care.

  9. Refers patients to community resources and agencies.

  10. Consults with their Collaborating Psychiatrist as necessary.

  11. Fully documents plan of care; and executes care in a timely manner.

  12. Ensure timely completion of forms presented to The Nurse Practitioner with Psych on behalf of the patient, for the proper billing of patients and third-party payers; and forms necessary for other funding sources.

  13. Maintains strict confidentiality and treats staff, physicians, visitors and patients with dignity and respect.

  14. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Licensed Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner – Board Certification Required

Hold valid DEA and prescriptive authority

Experience providing evaluation and evidence-based psychotherapy with a broad spectrum of clinical presentations

Minimum 1-2 years direct work experience

License in good standing in Pennsylvania

English proficiency required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In order to fulfill the requirements of this position, duties 1-14 are considered essential functions of the job.

ORGANIZATIONAL INVOLVEMENT

This position is required to participate in mandatory all staff meetings, team meetings and trainings.
