About the Department

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 114 clinical providers, providing care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off site locations. We have more than 60,000 outpatient visits, 25,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,000 gynecological surgeries per year. Teaching, research and the highest quality clinical care are top priorities for the Department. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in healthcare. The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies, as well as research conducted in wet laboratories on tumor biology, fibroid research, and hypertensive diseases in pregnancy.

Job Summary

The job uses best practices and knowledge of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research.

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) / Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to join our dynamic team within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to patients under the supervision or alternate supervision of attending physicians. In this role, the APP/APN will provide high-quality medical services across multiple areas, including well-woman care, problem visits, post-operative care, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Candidates will need to have both an Indiana and an Illinois license and will spend at least one full clinical day at our Crown Point facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care as an Advanced Practice Provider/Advanced Practice Nurse, qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients under the supervision or alternate supervision of attending physicians.
  • Deliver a range of services including well-woman care, problem visits, post-operative care, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with attending physicians and medical trainees to ensure patient care is aligned with the highest standards.
  • Independently see patients at Hyde Park and/or offsite clinic locations.
  • Administer, order, and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., ultrasounds, CT scans, lab tests, X-rays, ECGs).
  • Perform comprehensive physical exams to assess patients' conditions.
  • Counsel patients on prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional health, daily living concerns, and health maintenance.
  • Diagnose and manage patient conditions, making decisions regarding treatment plans.
  • Obtain and document patient medical history, progress notes, and results from physical exams.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Prescribe medication and other therapies as appropriate.
  • Assist with or perform specialty-specific procedures related to Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Participate in hospital rounds, monitor patients, update medical records, order therapies, and report findings to supervising physicians.
  • Order medical and laboratory supplies and equipment as necessary.
