The Cost Controller position performs a combination of the duties described more fully below. The primary responsibility will be to manage all financial aspects of the Newport Construction (120M$ annual revenue – road construction projects, one asphalt plant and one quarry) and Western Massachusetts (35M$ annual revenue – road construction projects and 3 asphalt plants) business units of Eurovia Atlantic Coast. The Cost Controller reports to both the Regional Finance Controller of Eurovia Atlantic Coast and the Division Managers of the business units. The job is based in Nashua, New Hampshire and requires on-site presence.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and communicate results to executives.
  • Analyze financial reports and develop new financial strategies to achieve company goals.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the division's finances.
  • Manage the completion of the month/quarter/year-end close for the division.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for the division and present them to the executive team.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Engineers on project budgeting and cost control.
  • Travel to jobsites as needed.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Support Corporate with internal and external financial audits.
  • Ensure security, integrity, and confidentiality of data.
  • Assumes other special activities and responsibilities as required.

Authorities:
The Cost Controller has full authority to perform his/her duties. However, they must consult with the necessary Manager in the following matters:

  • When things vary from the normal processes.
  • When any problems occur.
  • Any threat of litigation or situations that may lead to litigation.
  • Any matter that may affect the interest of the company.
  • Non-compliance with reporting requirements to regulatory authorities.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

Understanding of construction job costing, billing cycles, retainage, and WIP accounting, desired but not required.

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail in project financials.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive financial data with integrity.
  • Clear and concise communication skills to interact with project managers, estimators, and executive leadership.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to prioritize under pressure.
  • Ability to summarize and analyze multi-faceted financial data.
  • Requirements:
  • 5-10 years of experience in financial or accounting roles, preferably within the construction industry is a plus.
  • SAP experience is a plus.
  • Management experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suites.

  • Frequent ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;
  • Frequent ability to talk and hear, both in person and by telephone;
  • Frequent ability to operate standard office equipment, using hand and arm dexterity;
  • Frequent ability to navigate through office environment, including periodic use of stairs or elevator, as needed;
  • Infrequent ability to lift general office documents and materials, up to 10 pounds;
  • Frequent vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment.
The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that an Associate Counsel may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Work generally is performed in an office environment, although periodic visits to construction sites and asphalt manufacturing facilities is required, construction and asphalt facility visits, may expose position to general construction noise and environmental exposures, within the OSHA permissible exposure level(s)
  • Noise level in the typical office work environment is quiet
